I think you mean that reclaiming the words that homophobes use as slurs towards us is a way of taking power away from them. It’s us saying “you can’t hurt me, I’m proud of who I am, and there is NOTHING wrong with that.”
Also if we were to drop all the terms that have been used against us, what would be left? Even “gay” has been used as a slur.
